LIVERNANO AND CASALVENTO

Livernano and Casalvento are 2 historic villas with vineyards and an olive grove tucked into the heart of Chianti. They are most  famous for producing award winning wines,  the husband and wife team of Bob and Gudrun  Cuillo produce some of Chianti’s most prized wines sold around the world.
Livernano is famous for not only its’wines but the resort has uniquely decoratedr rooms, a farm to table restaurant which serves delicious farm to table meals using the produce freshly grown there, and unbelievable views of the Chianti región  http://www.livernano.it
The entire region’s cuisine, specialties and best-known dishes can be dissected, described and remade in great detail but the words necessary for such a feat are numerous.

Unless one visits the región, tastes the food, simples the wines, they may not ever get a full understanding of both the beauty of the región and the deliciousness of the cuisine.

DAVID FROST AND WINES

South African golfing icon David Frost has always had a passion for fine wine and the great game of golf. For him, the two pursuits creating wine and competing in golf are interlinked. They both present challenges, hurdles, excitement and reward. In fact, it was through picking grapes on his family's wine farm near Stellenbosch that the young David had earned enough pocket money to play golf, launching him on his successful international career.
His father's vineyard was the first place he hit balls and the pocket money he made from picking grapes, funded his first set of clubs and an on going supply of balls. Frost bought his own 300 acre vineyard in 1994 in the Paarl wine region and with the help of well known Napa winemaker Jason Fisher, produced his first 3,000 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon in 1997. With a focus on quality, not quantity the wine drew quick appreciation including a rating of 90 plus in a subsequent Wine Spectator review. This encouraged the production of additional varieties.
Fermented in stainless steel tanks and matured in small French oak barrels sourced from selected coopers, the David Frost Wine Estate range now comprises an exceptional range of fine, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Par Excellence (traditional red blend) and Shiraz. Taste them, you'll love them all!

LIVERNANO

LIVERNANO
Livernano is a truly ancient place. It was first inhabited by Etruscans, whose culture reached its high-point in Tuscany over 2500 years ago, around 500BC. The hamlet was later occupied by the Romans, who gave it its name. Long after the cessation of Roman rule, Livernano served as a fortified border post during the interminable wars of the two great mediaeval city states in Tuscany, Siena and Florence.
Our small, beautifully preserved Romanesque church dates back to the 11th century. In the 17th century, when the territorial wars between Siena and Florence had finally come to an end, Livernano turned into a quiet farming village. At the end of WWII, when the ancient system of share-cropping (mezzadria) was abandoned, Tuscany suffered grinding poverty. The beautiful countryside, tended by humans for millennia, became almost entirely depopulated. The last farmers left Livernano in 1953. The hamlet regained new life in 1990, when the complete restoration of the entire estate was begun. Today, Livernano is once again a working farm, producing fine wines, excellent olive oil and honey, vegetables and fruits. On 38 acres new vineyards were planted with 9 different grape varieties.
In the ancient olive groves, new trees were planted and we now tend close to 1000 trees, all of native Italian varieties. The remaining 420 acres consist of beautiful mature woodland that surrounds the hamlet on all sides. Three houses have been completely redesigned and furnished with local antiques to accommodate guests. Although situated in splendid isolation amidst forests, vines and olive groves, Livernano is close to many local towns, historic sites, fine restaurants, and famous wineries. The shopping and cultural centres of Florence and Siena are only a short drive away.
